Barry Bostwick And Rocky Horror Come To Ridgefield!

by John A. Wilcox

The Rocky Horror Picture Show has gone from being an unsuccessful 1975 film to a beloved worldwide institution. It's that classic boy-meets-girl-meets-insane-transvestite-doctor-from-another-planet tale told in so many ways over the years. OK, maybe not. But it is a pretty classic tale if you ask The Home Of Happiness shadow cast member Larry Viezel: It's essentially the story of Adam & Eve and the garden of Eden. They're eating from the tree of knowledge, of Frank - the forbidden fruit, and they're coming out changed. That's what Brad & Janet discover. He's got a point there. Perhaps that primal element is part of the appeal. Brad, Janet, Magenta, Riff Raff, Eddie & Dr Frank N Furter are just a few of the unforgettable cast populating this wacky musical. If all the Ridgefield Playhouse was doing was showing the film on the big screen, it would be a cause for celebration. However, they are offering so very much more! Barry Bostwick - Brad Majors himself - will be live on stage! As will the aforementioned The Home Of Happiness shadow cast!

So, what's a shadow cast> What do they do & why do I care? The shadow cast acts out the movie live on stage along with the film. They add call-and-response dialogue and guide the audience in joining them along the way. They often come into the audience and interact with them. You just never know! It adds immeasurably to the fun and quite effectively brings you into the show - forever to be tainted! lol To quote the casts' site : It is a safe environment - drugs, alcohol, sex and nudity are not allowed at the show. This is not to say that there aren't scantily clad women and a whole bunch of explicit language. The show has a lot of sexual humor in it. But it's safer than almost anything else you can do on a Saturday night. If you've never seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show with a shadow cast before, do be prepared to be de-virginized! I will quote the site once more: Those of you who have never seen the show before are considered "Virgins". If you've seen it on Comedy Central, or VH1, or Fox it doesn't count. And fuck you if you streamed it online. The only way you can officially lose the stigma of being a virgin is if you see the show at a movie theatre and go through a process known as devirginization. It's a relatively harmless process albeit somewhat humiliating. But it's all good clean fun. Usually...

Now...I know are you thinking "What are they are gonna do to me". It's about what are you willing to put yourself through for a good laugh. We won't make you do anything horrible. You will be put through just a few moments of humiliation and its over with. After you go through it you can bring your friends the next week and have them go through the same thing. Its not something for someone who has not mastered a sense of humor.
. I still remember my de-virginization and chuckle at the thought! I promise that you will too! Really!

Not only is the evening packed with fun, it's packed with music. Catchy, wild rock 'n' roll numbers like Hot Patootie - Bless My Soul, Sweet Transvestite, Touch-a Touch-a Touch-a Touch Me, and of course The Time Warp are just some of the excellent score! The venue will also have The Rocky Horror Picture Show movie memorabilia on display to feast your eyes upon. Not to mention a costume contest before the show and plenty of merch you simply must own. Personal plug moment : last year I published a Rocky Horror Quiz ebook on Amazon.com. You can find it here: A Rocky Horror Quiz

Going to see Rocky Horror has become a rite of passage. It's like going to your weirdo Bar Mitzvah! says Viezel. Now put on your finest fishnets and join the Transylvanians as they party with Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Meatloaf, and Barry Bostwick. There's a light over at the Frankenstein place and you're invited to join Brad & Janet in the madness if you dare!!
