Spotlight On: Velma Dinkley

by John A. Wilcox

Since her first appearance in Scooby Doo, Where Are You! in 1969, the world has loved the ever wonderful, ever brainy Velma Dinkley!

Velma was designed by the great Alex Toth. He based her on the Zelda Gilroy character from the TV series The Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis. In fact, all 4 principal human characters on Scooby Doo, Where Are You! were based on the cast of The Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis.

As the years have passed, the popularity of Velma Dinkley has grown exponentially. As these photos attest, she has become a darling of the cosplay community!

If you ever hear someone shout about "Those meddling kids!," Velma Dinkley is sure to be nearby! Should you suspect Mr. Jenkins of dressing up as a ghoul or ghost to steal the lost gold in the nearby abandoned fairground, Velma Dinkley will make everything better. ZOINKS!!
